NYPD Emergency Service Units safely resolved a tense situation Thursday afternoon on 53rd Street between 9th and 8th Avenues after a female was reported threatening to jump from a building in the area.
A large emergency response was initiated, with multiple ESU units, NYPD officers, and EMS personnel rushing to the scene as authorities worked to secure the area and communicate with the individual. Roads surrounding the scene were temporarily shut down during the operation, causing traffic disruptions in the neighborhood.
After an extended response, officials confirmed the situation ended without incident and the individual was safely taken for evaluation. Streets in the area are now being reopened as emergency crews clear the scene.
