This is Part 3 and the final part of my Yemen journey, and the most meaningful one. In a place where almost no Jews remain, I spent Shabbos in Al Mukalla. Possibly the only Jew in years to experience a full Shabbos here, thousands of miles from any Jewish community, in a country with deep but nearly forgotten Jewish roots. From preparing for Shabbos, to quiet moments by the Arabian Sea, to קידוש לבנה under the Yemen sky, this wasn’t just travel anymore. This was something deeper. Along the way: a canceled flight, exploring Osama Bin Laden’s hometown, Iftar in the old city, and seeing parts of Yemen the world rarely gets to witness.
