How do you say "accountability" in Hebrew?
You don't. Why? Because here in Israel, the concept has not existed. Until now.
While most Israeli's are aware of the lack of accountability, representation, and transparency in the government, Olim (immigrants) from western countries, for obvious reasons, feel the absence of these values most acutely. Most western immigrants we speak to see the Israeli government as an inaccessible matrix far outside their spheres influence, and at best they follow political developments as disenfranchised spectators.
There have even been attempts by select politicians to introduce elements of accountability to the government, yet they have all failed due to the numerous competing interests and intense bureaucracy for which our government is unfortunately so well known.
So we are going to skip all that bureaucracy and make it happen now. When we are elected to the Knesset, we will be responsible to maximize the welfare of every Israeli citizen, but first and foremost, we will be accountable to our constituency.
At this point, you may be wondering who our constituents are and how will we be accountable. We believe that the answer to those questions can spark a fundamental transformation in the Israeli Political system.
We are running for the Bayit Yehudi Party. We have been travelling the country registering people to join the party and vote for us to represent them in the Knesset. To us, all registered members of the Bayit Yehudi party are our constituents.
