Bahrain: 'Cousins getting together' - Israeli PM meets Crown Prince in first official visit
Description
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa in the first visit to Bahrain by an Israeli prime minister, as seen in Manama on Tuesday, with al-Khalifa likening the new step in relations to 'cousins coming together.' The visit took place after the 2020 Abraham Accords in which Israel established diplomatic relations with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. "This is the first official visit of an Israeli prime minister in Bahrain and I come from Israel with a spirit of goodwill, of cooperation, of standing together amidst mutual challenges, and I think our goal in this visit is to turn it from government-to-government, to people-to-people peace and to convert it from ceremonies to substance," said Bennett. Towards the end of the meeting al-Khalifa jokingly referred to the Abraham Accords as 'cousins coming together,' with Bennet agreeing.
