Why does the Torah emphasize again and again that Pharaoh’s heart was hardened?
Was God removing Pharaoh’s free will… or allowing evil to fully reveal itself?
In this highlight from the Land of Israel Fellowship by Tehila Gimpel on Sefer Exodus, we uncover a recurring biblical pattern that spans from ancient Egypt to the modern Middle East: evil is not destroyed by mercy it is exposed by it.
Through a close reading of the plagues, the Sea of Reeds, and later biblical parallels, we see that Pharaoh’s heart was not magically hardened. Instead, God structured redemption in a way that gave Pharaoh just enough relief, doubt, and perceived weakness to strengthen himself. In doing so, Pharaoh revealed his true nature and ultimately brought about his own downfall.
This Torah pattern repeats throughout Jewish history:
✔️ Egypt, the Canaanite kings, and the Philistines
✔️ Moments when Israel appeared weak—and enemies were emboldened
✔️ And in our own time: Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and October 7
From Pharaoh to Iran, the same dynamic unfolds. When Israel shows restraint, mercy, or trust toward those who openly seek its destruction, those enemies interpret it as weakness and rush to reveal the full scope of their evil. In doing so, they seal their own fate.
The Exodus is not just history. It is prophecy.
A template for how redemption unfolds, how evil exposes itself, and how God sanctifies His name before the world again and again.
This message is not only about geopolitics. It applies to leadership, parenting, personal boundaries, and moral clarity in every generation.
👉 Join our fellowship to continue learning Torah that speaks directly to the times we are living in and to understand how redemption is built even through moments of apparent weakness.
