Joel is a NYS certified Building Code Enforcement agent and owner of JK Expediting Services. With offices stationed in Monticello, NY, his team serves the surrounding counties and assists property owners and developers throughout the planning and expediting phases. In a recent collaboration with Rielly Engineering, JK Expediting now offers engineering services to their clients. Of doors and ducts. Joel introduces his first question to Mr. Joel Weberman, a certified Air Vac specialist. New local building codes require the door blower test to be conducted before receiving a CFO for residential buildings. What does the test involve? “Whereas the test is an energy efficient tool that’s been used previously, it is now mandatory by law before a CFO is granted. The test successfully checks the air conditioning ducts for leaks or open valves. Two tests are performed to get result accuracy. 1. Duct testing: This involves the closing of all outlets and then an expert uses a machine with a meter attached to conduct computerized checks of air supply. 2. Door blower testing: Using a large frame and fan, all rooms are sealed and depressurized, with the enveloped walls preventing the introduction of any air flow. The maximum level of air exchange is 3 for certification and the air exchange may not exceed that level. Have a question, explanation or story to share?
