Talmidei Yeshivas Slabodka Complete Sefer Torah in Honor of the Roshei Hayeshiva Shlit”a The Yom Tov of Kabbolas haTorah bring back memories of a special celebration of kabalas haTorah that took place this past winter. On the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of Yeshivas Slabodka in Bnei Brak, the talmidei hayeshiva completed the writing of a Sefer Torah in honor of their distinguished Roshei Hayeshiva, Hagaon Rav Dov Laundau shlit”a and Hagaon Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlit”a. A group of close talmidim of Rav Moshe Hillel flew in from the Unites States and elsewhere to take part in in this special and meaningful celebration, which has multiple connotations. In addition to the mitzvah of Kesivas Sefer Torah it serves as an eternal tribute to the golden link of their personal Mesoras Hatorah, the Toras Moshe of their very own “ispashtuseh d’Moshe” of our generation. The event came just as the news broke of Rav Mosher Hillel’s difficult medical diagnosis and the start of a grueling treatment regimen. The bittersweet feeling that hung over the celebration underscored the critical need to relieve the Rosh Hayeshiva of the financial burden of sustaining the Torah empire of Slabodka that bears down so heavily on his frail shoulders. As the Sefer Torah was escorted from the Yeshiva L’tzeirim building to the main Heichal Hayeshiva, the festive dancing expressed Klal Yisroel’s collective Shevach Vehoda’ah to Hakadosh Boruch Hu for granting our generation the zechus of having two venerated ziknei hador in our midst, both illustrious bearers of our venerated mesorah. It expressed the heartfelt tefilla of Ki orech yamim ushenos chaim yosifu lach, Yamim al yemei melech tosif, shenosav kemo dor vador.
