Williamsburg Shomrim: Scammers Arrested in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

On a Thursday afternoon, a woman contacted Williamsburg Shomrim, reporting she had been scammed out of $13,000 by someone posing as a U.S. Marshal. The scammer threatened her with arrest over a fake warrant and convinced her to hand over the money in person. Shomrim’s IT team quickly jumped into action — gathering surveillance footage and capturing a license plate, By July 22, a second meeting was arranged with the scammer under the pretense of delivering more cash. Working closely with the NYPD’s 79th Precinct, a sting operation was set. When the scammer arrived to collect the envelope, officers moved in and made the arrest. A job well done — great teamwork by Shomrim and the NYPD! REMEMBER: Never give out personal information or money to anyone over the phone.
