The Arizal writes "there are all types of preparations we need to make on Erev Shabbos for the purpose of Shabbos, some are in thought, some in speech and some in action."
We are used to thinking of preparing for Shabbos exclusively in the world of action. We need to shop, cook, clean, set the table, shower, change and be ready. But the truth is that while important, those are external acts of getting ready. We also need to change our mindset and treat Friday as Erev Shabbos. Friday we should begin to slow down, start to disconnect from the mundane, from that which is stressful, from the concept of weekday and begin to transition our thoughts to a place of peace, tranquility and rest.
We also turn Friday in to Erev Shabbos in the realm of speech. Instead of calling it Friday, we should refer to the day as Erev Shabbos. We should talk to others about their Shabbos plans, their Shabbos menu, ask about the Divrei Torah they will share on Shabbos, etc.
May we prepare for Shabbos not only with our actions, but with our speech and our thoughts and successfully Turn Friday into Erev Shabbos.
Have a great shabbos!
