A trailer packed with plastic materials was heading from Canada to Brooklyn when it got a flat tire on the NY-17, right before the Thruway entrance. The tire caught fire, and the flames quickly spread to the whole trailer.
Since the truck was full of plastic, the fire got big fast. Thick black smoke could be seen from far away, and firefighters rushed to the scene. Thankfully, the driver was able to get out safely.
NY-17 had to be completely shut down for over two hours, causing a massive traffic jam that stretched for miles. Cars were stuck in place as emergency crews worked to get the fire under control and clear the wreckage
