So what do his three brick-and-mortar locations offer that a larger store doesn’t? Service and expertise. “All my workers are very knowledgeable and experienced, many are a little older. That means whatever problem you throw at them chances are they’ve heard it before.” This expertise is the reason, Mr. Babad actually prefers to hire people who are a bit older. Mr. Babad himself bought his first hardware store after working in a paint factory for thirteen years, which gave him a great grounding in the subtleties of different paint types and their uses, as well as on-the-job training doing “everything that was needed”. Once he owned his own store he began selling to walk-ins and also pitched property managers and began selling to them. Today there are three locations and twenty-five workers, that are thriving, BH.
