For generations, the cries of Mame Rochel, the one who could not rest when her children were sent into exile, echo. As the Jewish people wander through pain, tears, and uncertainty, her voice echoes from that lonely road near Beis Lechem. While others were silent, Rochel Imeinu wept - not for herself, but for her children - until Hashem Himself promised her, “There is reward for your tears… and the children shall return to their land.” Her tears never stopped flowing. Tonight, on her yahrzeit, we join together once more, pleading with Mame Rochel to carry our tears to the Kisei HaKavod, to intercede for her children and bring an end to our suffering.

I performed “Mame Rochel” live earlier this month at the Hebrew Music Museum in Yerushalayim, and I hope the emotion and longing embedded in every note continue to awaken that same timeless cry, the cry of a mother who still weeps for her children, and the hope of a nation waiting for her promise to be fulfilled.

במשך דורות, מהדהדות זעקותיה של אמא רחל, זו שלא יכלה לנוח כשילדיה נשלחו לגלות. בעוד העם היהודי משוטט בכאב, דמעות וחוסר ודאות, קולה מהדהד מאותה דרך בודדה ליד בית לחם. בעוד אחרים שתקו, רחל אימנו בכתה - לא על עצמה, אלא על ילדיה - עד שהקב"ה בכבודו ובעצמו הבטיח לה: "יש שכר לדמעותיך... והבנים ישובו לגבולם". דמעותיה לא חדלו לזרום. הערב, ביארצייט שלה, אנו מתאחדים שוב, מתחננים למאמע רחל שתישא את דמעותינו אל כסא הכבוד, שתתפלל עבור ילדיה ותשים קץ לסבלנו.

ביצעתי את "מאמע רחל" בהופעה חיה מוקדם יותר החודש במוזיאון המוזיקה העברי בירושלים, ואני מקווה שהרגש והגעגוע הטבועים בכל תו ימשיכו לעורר את אותה זעקה נצחית, זעקתה של אם שעדיין בוכה על ילדיה, ואת התקווה של אומה הממתינה להבטחתה שתתגשם.
