Assemblyman Aron Wieder and Senator Sam Sutton have introduced legislation to ensure that New Yorkers of Jewish and Muslim descent receive burials consistent with their religious traditions when they die without next of kin. The measure, filed as A11146 in the Assembly and S9930 in the Senate, requires hospitals, morgues, and other facilities to notify designated religious burial organizations before disposing of unclaimed remains.
